Following last nights meeting I have sent the following e-mail or letter to all the Borough Councillors except Ozzy and Chris.

Dear Councillor .....,

I am very concerned about the proposed traveller site at Thornton. As part of the consultation process I will send in a letter outlining my main concerns. Although my concerns will not be original as they just repeat the views of so many others which have already been widely publicised in the newspapers and on television.

However, ...

HELP WANTED - GREEN WALK

The Green Walk is taking place on the 29th of March.

We need some helpers to act as marshalls around the reservoir.

It would involve sitting at a certain point around the reservoir and generally over seeing the walk. Type of things you may have to deal with - checking that no one is pulling down any of the treasure hunt, looking out for any lost children, reporting any incidents for example if anyone needs first aid etc.

Any help would be gratefully received.

I understand that the council had a number (9?) of sites from which to choose, and they chose Thornton. Surely, for a balanced discussion, the identities of the other sites should be made public knowledge, as part of the consultation. This is not NIMBYism: those debating the issue can weigh up the pros and cons of the different sites probably as well as the council. Reasons why other sites were discarded could be provided by the council.....wouldn't this come under Freedom of Information ? Rather ...

For me it is a red herring that HBBC want to put a travellers site on this land. I think the reasons as listed in the article are much stronger and should be given greater emphasis. I'm pleased to see they have been captured on the poster, eg the impact on tourism, biodiversity, impact on National Forest, limited infrastructure, poor access etc etc.

I do not think this site is suitable for any ...

PEOPLE in Westerleigh have joined forces to fight plans which they say would "swamp" the village with travellers’ sites.

Much of the community was left outraged at South Gloucestershire Council’s proposals to expand existing encampments and create one new gypsy site at five locations surrounding the village.

Chairman of Westerleigh Residents’ Association, Eve Carey, said the "saturation" was unfair.

She told the Gazette: "Westerleigh is only a small ...

CONTROVERSIAL proposals to build a travellers' site in a rural area of north Essex were thrown out by planners last night after massive public opposition.

The move would have paved the way for the creation of a permanent home for 12 traveller families in the small parish of Crockleford Heath, near Colchester.

But at a meeting of the council's development control committee at Clacton's Princes Theatre yesterday, councillors followed officers' recommendations to turn it down due to the ...

Police have been told they cannot object to a planned gipsy camp in a picturesque village - because to do so would be 'racist'.

Council chiefs have ruled that the local force's professional opinion 'breaches the Race Relations Act'.

The decision meant that councillors considering the planning application were not told how officers had been called to another local camp 109 times in just two years.

Objection: Bletsoe resident Colin Deas at the proposed site is unhappy that police ...
